With last week’s high-profile announcement that a new form of spyware called “Flame” is almost certainly a state-developed program, the topics of cyber warfare and state-sponsored snooping have captured attention. At least, they have captured the attention of Google, which today announced that it will be warning users of its products if they appear to be under attack by state-sponsored malware.
Google made the announcement on its “Google on Security” blog, explaining that it has always monitored its system and products for suspicious activity. “Today, we’re taking that a step further for a subset of our users, who we believe may be the target of state-sponsored attacks.”
