How to keep your name out of Facebook’s social ads
If you are a regular Facebook user, maybe you’ve “liked” a company or product page in the past. But do you really want your name used to help advertise that company or product? Social ads are a relatively new Facebook invention. Here’s how Facebook itself explains them:
“Everyone wants to know what their friends like. That’s why we pair ads and friends—an easy way to find products and services you’re interested in, based on what your friends share and like. Learn more about social ads.”
Here’s what a regular ad and a social ad would look like. Note that the name of a friend appears below the social ad. If you aren’t opted out, your name might appear in one of these.
Sure, any of your friends on Facebook can go look at your list of “likes,” but many people feel that the ads sort of cross a line. Here’s an article that shows you, step-by-step, how you can opt your name out of social ads.
